How to Cancel a Dropbox Paid Plan
Sign in at dropbox.com. Click your profile picture in the top-right and go to "Settings". Click the "Plan" tab, then scroll to "Cancel plan". Dropbox may offer a discount to retain you — decline if you want to fully cancel. The cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period (end of month or end of year for annual plans). You'll receive a confirmation email. For Dropbox Business accounts, only the team admin can cancel the plan from the Admin Console → Settings → Plan.
What Happens to Your Files After Cancellation
When your paid plan ends, your account reverts to the free tier with 2 GB of storage. If you have more than 2 GB stored, Dropbox enters a "storage over limit" state. In this state, your existing files remain viewable for 12 months but you cannot upload new files or sync changes. After 12 months over the limit, Dropbox may delete your oldest files to bring you within quota. To avoid any risk, download all your important files locally before cancelling, or move them to another cloud service.
How to Export and Download Your Files Before Cancelling
Sign in to dropbox.com. Select all files in your main folder (click the top checkbox). Click "Download" — Dropbox will compress your files into a zip. For large collections, download folder by folder to avoid timeouts. If you have a desktop app installed, your synced local copies already exist on your computer — check that the local sync is complete before cancelling. For Dropbox Paper documents, go to Paper → your document list → select all → "Export" and choose PDF or Word format.
Cancelling Dropbox Through Apple or Google
If you subscribed to Dropbox through the iOS App Store or Google Play, you must cancel through those platforms. On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Dropbox → Cancel Subscription. On Android: Google Play → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Dropbox → Cancel. Check your Dropbox account settings to confirm where your billing is managed before attempting to cancel — the account portal will say "Manage through iTunes" or "Manage through Google Play" if a third party handles billing.
