How to Cancel Your Audible Subscription

Cancel Audible Premium Plus or Audible Plus and keep the audiobooks you've already purchased. How to pause instead of cancel if you have unused credits.

Audible has two main tiers: Audible Plus ($7.95/month, streaming-only library) and Audible Premium Plus ($14.95/month, includes 1 credit per month for any audiobook). Before cancelling, check how many unused credits you have — credits expire immediately when your subscription ends, but purchased audiobooks are yours to keep forever. This guide covers how to cancel and what to do with leftover credits.

1

How to Cancel Audible on the Website

Go to audible.com and sign in. Click your account name in the top-right and select "Account details". Click "Cancel membership" under the subscription section. Audible will take you through a retention flow offering a pause or discounted rate. If you have unused credits, the page will warn you — consider using them before confirming cancellation. Click through to the final confirmation screen to complete the cancellation. You keep listening access until your billing period ends, and you keep all audiobooks you've purchased or used credits on forever.

2

How to Pause Audible Instead of Cancelling

If you have a large credit balance or just need a break, pausing is worth considering. During the pause flow (shown when you try to cancel), Audible offers 1–3 months at a reduced or free rate. This is Audible's most common retention offer. If you pause for one month, your credits are frozen and restored when the pause ends. Pausing is only available for Premium Plus (not Audible Plus). If you don't want any more charges at all, cancel rather than pause — a pause doesn't prevent the subscription from resuming automatically.

3

What Happens to Audiobooks and Credits When You Cancel

Unused credits are lost immediately when you cancel — they cannot be carried over to a free account. Audiobooks you've already purchased or redeemed with credits are yours permanently and remain in your library even without a subscription. You can still listen to them through the Audible app after cancelling. The Audible Plus streaming library (the catalogue of books included without credits) becomes inaccessible once the subscription ends. Before cancelling, use all remaining credits on audiobooks you actually want — prioritise long books or ones you've been meaning to buy.

4

Cancelling Audible Through Amazon (Common Confusion)

Audible is owned by Amazon, and many people expect to manage it through their Amazon account, but Audible has its own separate subscription management at audible.com. Cancelling your Amazon Prime membership does not cancel Audible. The two are entirely separate subscriptions, even if they're charged to the same card. If you subscribed to Audible through the iOS App Store, cancel through Apple: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Audible → Cancel Subscription.
